Prime Limited-Time Offers

What are Limited-Time Offers?

Prime Limited-Time Offers (LTOs) are short-duration promotions that give Prime members access to exclusive benefits subject to the offer terms and conditions.

These offers are intended to create high-impact, talkable customer moments rather than everyday discounts. They help third party companies introduce Prime members to compelling experiences while giving customers clear, differentiated value.

Examples may include:

  • Free trials
  • Subscription upgrades
  • Exclusive discounts
  • Credits or vouchers
  • Seasonal or event-based offers such as live music events

Our Limited Time Offer Tenets

We partner with brands that help create memorable, high-value experiences for Prime members. Our partnerships follow the principles below.

TenetDescription
Nationally Unified OffersOffers must be consistent and accessible to all eligible Prime members across the country.
Talkable BrandsWe partner with nationally-scaled businesses that deliver talkable moments rather than day-to-day discounts.
Uniquely Compelling SavingsOur offers exceed market segment alternatives, creating genuine excitement, organic member advocacy and easy to track savings ('no-brainer' math).
Genuine Prime ExclusivityThe offer must be exclusively available to Prime members and must represent a value that cannot be matched or exceeded through any other channel.
Fresh and DynamicThe short-term nature of our LTOs create urgency, excitement, and seasonal relevance. Successful offers may earn consideration for ongoing partnerships.
Customer Experience FirstWe launch partnerships only when CX and operational readiness meet our quality standards.
Data-Driven DecisionsPerformance measurement is non-negotiable. Partners must be willing to share key metrics for us to track and evaluate their impact.
Amazon-wide Impact3P Partnerships where LTOs complement rather than compete with Amazon's core businesses.
Growth Mindset PartnersAll other tenets equal, we prioritize partners with openness to long-term collaboration.

How the Technology Works

Prime Limited-Time Offers use a simple setup. Partners generate promotion codes and upload them to the designated Amazon S3 bucket. Amazon then uses those codes to power the Prime member offer experience. Prime members receive a unique offer experience on Amazon and redeem the benefit on the partner's website or app.

This is a lightweight setup intended to simplify onboarding. Partners are expected to support: (i) Promo code generation, (ii) Promo code uploads and (iii) Reporting and tracking readiness.

For detailed technical instructions, including code upload requirements and file structure, please refer to the documentation below:

Partner Promotions - Promo Code Upload Guide

  1. Partners generate promo codes for the offer
  2. Partners provide an IAM role to Amazon
  3. Amazon creates S3 bucket and grants the partner's IAM role permission to upload to it
  4. Partners upload promo codes to the designated Amazon S3 bucket using their IAM role
  5. Amazon uses the uploaded codes to enable the Prime member offer experience
  6. Prime members receive a unique promotion URL/code on Amazon and redeem the benefit on the partner's website or app
  7. Partners upload redeemed codes to the S3 bucket for reconciliation

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What types of companies qualify for LTO partnerships?

We typically partner with nationally scaled or fast-growing companies that can deliver compelling, high-value experiences for Prime members. We look for partners whose offers are distinctive, easy for customers to understand, and operationally ready to support launch at scale.

2. What marketing support is provided for Limited-Time Offers?

We support Limited-Time Offers through a range of Prime-owned marketing channels, (placements on Homepage, Partner Offers page), as well as lifecycle channels such as email and push notifications. Marketing support varies by campaign and is influenced by factors such as offer value, customer relevance, and overall campaign priorities. In some cases, additional marketing support may be unlocked based on partner investment.

Partners are encouraged to complement Amazon's efforts with their own marketing (e.g., email, paid media) to maximize reach and performance.

3. How long do Limited-Time Offers run?

Limited-Time Offers typically run for a defined promotional period (2-6 weeks), depending on the campaign objective, customer proposition, and locale. The exact duration is determined during launch planning.

4. Can successful LTOs become long-term partnerships?

Yes. Strong-performing Limited-Time Offers may be considered for longer-term partnership opportunities over time.

5. How long does the approval process take?

Approval timing depends on several factors, including offer structure, customer experience readiness, legal alignment, and launch calendar considerations. After intake submission, our team will review the proposal within 7 days and follow up on next steps if there is a fit.
